After my last tractor quilt, I decided it's time to go back to doing fish quilts. I've been trying to master the quilt as you go technique and after my last quilt, I had a little epiphany. I don't always have to make everything in squares. Maybe I could do 3 long rectangles and get more of the effect I'm looking for.
And for the most part, it is just what I was looking for.
I am not thrilled that when I sewed the seams, I wasn't able to get the wavy pattern to cover the seam on the front, but that's because I am not as precise as I'd like to be when I line them up. I definitely liked doing it as 3 long rectangles because there was a lot less to struggle with when I put them together.
In my mind, I saw lots of seaweed growing from the bottom, but my mind and reality rarely line up, just like my quilts!
I love the chaos of these fish and their pouty lips! Sometimes, I flip them over so some fish go one way and some go the other. I also forgot until right now, that I meant to put the multicolored blocks on the top and bottom like I did in my favorite one.
I think I'll try this method again with a different quilting plan. My free motion presser foot is too high for these thin quilts, so I have to get one with a lower shank to do what I really want.

On a different note, can you help me help my sister? She's a sewing aficionado who blogs at Call Ajaire and has recently been featured on Joann Fabric's youtube channel. Click here and go check out her video for a simple way to make a belt for toddler pants.
I really like the fish! If I was a quilter, I'd probably be not-so-good at lining things up as well. Sometimes I am such a perfectionist, but sometimes I just can't get things right. 50/50 with me!

I am completely impressed - I gave up all attempts at sewing when I screwed up my locker caddy in 8th grade home ec :) The fish are super cute.
