I don't entertain in my pajamas unless walking through my gardens in the morning entertains the plants and critters.
For my strike fabric in this round of prints from Waymaker Fabrics, I chose this Frostfall in the light red, knowing it would be make excellent pajama pants. I couldn't help getting a little extra to make a nightgown.
At no point did I intend to wear them together!
I made the pajama pants first, in the Ellen Pajama pants pattern from 5outof4patterns. This is a pattern for woven pajamas, a top or bottom, and I've make several of the pants for myself. There's a complicated waistband that involves elastic and when the elastic wore through one of my first pairs, I replaced it with a yoga band and I'll never do the intended waistband again.
I chose the Modal French terry as the base for this Frostfall print, and it has some stretch. I wasn't too worried about them being too big or slouchy because a) the fabric doesn't have a huge amount of stretch and b) I'm not going to wear them anywhere but in the house and in the garden, so I'm not putting on any fashion shows.
Except on this blog :)
I went with the same size I use for woven and I'm happy with them. There isn't enough recovery for the waistband to be in only the Modal French terry so I am going to have to either run an elastic through the back or take it off and put a better knit on the back side.
For the nightgown, I didn't have quite enough fabric, so I found this oatmeal knit that I had enough of to do some colorblocking. And then lost my mind and made the ruffle.
Every time I say I'm not really a ruffle kind of girl, there I am putting ruffles on another thing!
The oatmeal fabric is paper thin and already has holes. It's one of the worst fabrics I've ever used. I topstitched every place where I used it, hoping to extend the life, but I don't think this is going to last long.
In the meantime, these pants and top keep going through the wash together and then I end up wearing them together by accident. If I were a pajama person or if I were going to see people on Christmas morning in my PJs, I might have made the top into a top and not a nightgown. I'll get way more use out of it as a nightgown, though, until the oatmeal disintegrates and I end up using the snowflakes in something else.
There are 4 colors in this print available on the Waymaker Fabrics site: a green, wine, dark blue and light red. They are all so great for winter PJs. With Waymaker Fabrics, you can choose from a variety of bases: knits, cotton, canvas, terry. Check them out and outfit your family for a cozy winter!
